Spotlight: Kathlyn "Kat" Black

By now, you have probably noticed the mural near the corner of Sam Houston Avenue and 13th Street. It's called "Take a Look on the Wild Side," and it was painted by Kat Black. All of the animals shown in this 12-foot high, 24-foot wide mural are native to Walker County. She was kind enough to send us a photo of the sketch and of the final product (click on image to enlarge):

Kat has been painting for over 30 years. She recently showcased work at the first annual Town Creek Music Festival. Her work is actually all around us: Have you noticed the awesome mural behind Tinsley's or the mural on the wall of the Camp Coyote building? Kat painted those!

Keep your eye out for her art, and if you see her, be sure to thank her for the lesson on animals in Walker County!
